07.:00 Early train Ride Back and powered off a few hrs sleep and a very large coffee , I am “prepared” for a busy day ahead of me. Having a lovely weekend at home comes at a cost, now I have to do a lot of work in a short amount of time, as for me I don’t like to fall behind. But still Definitely worth it for Home cooked Sunday roast.
11.00 In the school of Art, Dragging Canvas and Paint home. As much as I like working in the uni time is restricted and I often get distracted by friends. Time to tackle This huge canvas.
12:00 Home- Cuppa tea and a long hard think before smashing some paint on the canvas.
With this Painting, my initial intention was to focus on thinning the paint to allow it to flow as a lot of my paintings i end up restricting the paint due to using too thick paint for my intended purpose.
I started off by thinning the paint down what i thought was a lot, However, the paints are so pigmented it was hard to tell. I thinned the next colours down more trying to use gestural marks and letting the paint drip. to give a less representational style. I then left it to dry and thinned next layers of colours with glazing medium to allow the transparency to show the colours from underneath to shine through whilst still giving flow too the painting.
Painting at First stage- Cadmium orange.
A Few colours in.
Tuesday; Whole day Spent working on this painting ready fro group critique Wednesday- Still needs lots more work- some of the colours becoming muddy, do not like some of the marks. But Pleased with the direction work is taking, absolutely in love with painting this size, need to work on composition for further works.
Thursday; Abstract lecture day and tutorial.
Didn't want to do any more work on the painting as wanted some feedback at its current state from tutor. This week my tutor told me to use thinner paint and let it flow and have fun with it so i didnt want to go over these elements without showing prior.
Colour studies are a constant, I like to test out what colours do when mixed together and they help me when i'm stuck on what colour i might need in the painting im working on.
Friday: Ordered Two more canvases from the SoA. Stretched one and a half and ready to continue on Monday. Exciting times ahead!
