Since taking a break and doing some paintings that make me happy, I have come back to the snow on Mountain Series, and could see them entirely differently. Not only this but the weather has gone colder with the storm which I find helps me paint cold weather paintings! I find it very difficult to paint different weather than what we are having- odd?
I have been staring at them and staring at them waiting for the answer. I realised I look and I don’t see, how long do you look at something? 10 seconds? 30?
With this series, I have painted so many layers, reworking compositions, changing the sky colours making them dark or lighter; but since painting the ‘ynyslas beach’ painting I felt I could tackle them. I noticed that previously the sky was the wrong colour. It was such a strong contrast to the rest of the painting that it didn’t allow the eye to look through the rest of the painting, but I still need something that makes all the paintings work as a set. I found that the light green-grey colour allows for less of a distraction to the rest of the painting, bringing the green of the land into the sky allowing for the connection between one and other. These are still not finished, but I feel they don’t need much and am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and can see them as my exhibition series, which compared to last week is a step forward compared to wanting to burn them!
Since then I have also managed to do four more mixing up the compositions and playing with the colours to connect them as a series.
Let’s hope it stays cold for a bit so I can finish them!
But onwards and upwards!
