This week has turned in to two weeks and still working on this series. The more I paint I lose more of the glow, but it is all practice and I would much prefer to have a painting which I have hopefully resolved. I am happy with three of these paintings for the time being and the fourth actually doesn’t exist anymore, I scraped the paint back completely and am working on changing the composition. However at this point I am putting these paintings to bed as I feel I have learned all I can from them for the moment.
I’m finding it very difficult to paint the snow now we are currently experiencing 18°C of sun shine! Which is very strange for this time of year in the coast of wales!
I may come back to these and I feel I have the potential to use this series as a back up for my exhibittion, but I’m now 100% happy with them to go on display.
This series has helped me get out of my comfort zone and use paint in different ways than I normally would, such as; using a roller, using acrylic inks and using new colour paints.
For the next series I am currently working on some new compositional ideas still along the same semi abstract idea, but back to the sea. I think this will allow me to go back to working on thinner layers and allow me to introduce movement and light in to the work which are two of the things that inspire me to paint.
I have fallen out of love with this snow seires and the best thing moving forward is to let them be, and forget about them.
Each day I have been in the studio I haven’t seemed to make these paintings much stronger, and I never want to fall out of love with painting. I’m hoping that I can come back to these paintings in a few weeks and know what’s missing and how to fix the work but for now onwards and upwards!
