Monday: Grounds a ready and off out to do some studies in the landscape. Looking at composition
Looking for some inspiration I struggled up constitution with my paint and canvass just an hour before the sun was going to set and went sketching and painting. I started off doing some thumbnail sketches around looking for some interesting compositions. And drawing from different angles. I looked at this composition and did a quick water colour sketch and drew my canvas out of the commotion I went for and marked out some of the tones before coming home and finishing the painting.
Overall I was pleased with this painting and am seeing improvement in sense of light which is what I want to achieve.
Wednesday : Group Tutorial!
I came in with these paintings and overall it went well and got some good advice for where I should go and what I can do to get better. I love going to these group tutorials with not a very busy timetable this year in terms of lectures I’m beginning to see the value of these critiques and seeing everyone else’s work and comments people make to see how this can help me in my own work.
Thursday group tutorial; Speaking with my tutor, seeing something different in a painting I did this week, where the actual landscape is of little
Importance. And is obvious that my main interest is in the clouds and sea! The realisation of why I am draw to portraiture and the water and sky and it’s because they are all constantly changing and moving rather than maybe buildings which just are always the same. This got me thinking and I realised a lot of the time in my paintings I’m most excited about painting skies, so now it’s time
To look at the sky!
