Monday 08.45- Ready for a classic Monday fun full day of printing, For once i was up early enough to have a proper breakfast before the day began. A very unusual occurrence.
10:00-Got around to doing my Chine Collé on my suite of prints, basically a fancy way of saying sticking tissue paper to a print to add colour, and collage. slightly more complicated than that though, as you must stick the tissue paper in the exact place so that when you come to print over the top, its in the right place. They were really just an experiment, to learn the process and develop from, i learned that registration, especially hair line was very difficult to achieve, so maybe next time ill try and avoid that. Two of them i really liked, although the registration of the lips are off, in my opinion it adds to the prints. The main thing i like about printmaking will always be the surprise element, you can never expect what it will be like, and it makes the whole process a lot more enjoyable, especially if you let go and just see what happens.
12:00- I felt i had got enough out of the stone,so it was time to grain it off and draw something else out. The process of graining off the image is quite lengthy, and hard work, but once you get the hang of it, it's easier, and fun to watch your image disappear.
Wednesday 09:00- Back to etching, with a change of theme in painting, i felt my printmaking aught to change too. The sudden realization that my tutor was right, i enjoyed landscape and working from location and being outdoors. I guess, if we cant be inspired by whats around us, its very difficult to make art, so it was a step backwards, remembering what i did last semester on my on location project, i had produced a lot of work. May not be the best work, but it doesn't matter about the piece i do now it always matters about the one i do next, as with each new piece i do ill learn something, and hopefully bring that forward to the next piece to slowly improve my work. Anyways, I added an aquatint to my copper plate, as the original line drawing was very unappealing, as of yet its still not where i want it to be, needs to be a lot lighter so am currently scraping back to get some of the lights again. however, i do see something happening and have already learned a lot from printing this plate as well as etching it, for instance, i don't like all the lines i originally etched, so on my next one i'm going to go straight into painting out the aquatint and step etching the image, to get clear and more concise edges as well as the drawings, and see what happens.
Wednesday 12:00- Panicking that i hadn't done anything for my tutorial on Thursday, as had been focusing on printmaking all week, i went out in the cold and got some paintings done, quick thumbnail ideas, painting sketches and this piece. i started to become interested in whats beyond further, where you cant really see in the distance. One thing i find that when from working out doors is that my work is very limited, and i'm a lot more lazy with my colour mixing. Some things are good about being there, like the fact that its cold and you don't want to be there anymore, so you are thinking more about what is essential to the painting, and what isn't for example, how much detail do i need to put in the sky to give the impression of the weather. I wasn't very pleased with his painting however, when i got home and looked at it i couldn't really tell the main focus of the painting, and iy doesn't really have an even flow throughout it, but i guess i could learn from my lazy mixing and application of paint.
Thursday 11:00 - Painting work shops. Something i always look forward to each week, and am really going to miss next year. I just would never do half the things i do in the workshops off my own back, but i learn so much.
14:00- Tried to fix a painting i had washed back, i thought it was all there and could be fixed, but didn't quite manage it, so left it for another day before i ended up breaking through it with a pallet knife, a regular occurrence in the moment, and usually an instance regret.
16:40 weekly tutorial with June, always giving me advice and help which i greatly appreciate, it's often easy to see whats wrong but not knowing how to fix it is a struggle, and she always knows a trick or two to help me improve.
17:40 Train home for the weekend, with a lack of food or money, a trip back home was greatly appreciated. A full roast on a Thursday? amazing.
Sunday 08.00- Parents drove me back up to Aber, whilst having a stop off for a few hours in cardigan bay- Their place of honeymoon. Going for a walk on poppit sands , bag of chips at the view point, always love it when they come down, feels like a little holiday, but only half an hour down the road.
16:00- After a goodbye hug, it was back to reality, another week rendering closer , and a bit of work to make sure i had done before then.
